Painting is Addictive!

Yes, now you know. Once you get started it is hard to stop. Whichever technique you are drawn to one thing is sure, you will be hooked. Whether you choose watercolor painting, oil painting, acrylic painting or some other form of painting, you will find much joy in your craft.

Whether you are a hobby painter or a professional, you are bound to develop a passion for your art. It may be the colors of the paints – bright and bold or subtle and soft – or it may be the textures – silky or sensuous that you find mesmerizing. For some this craft is a visual delight while others enjoy the tactile sensory stimulation.

Learning the individual characteristics of the paints that you choose can take years but the sheer joy that you derive from discovering the individual characteristics of the paints will begin the first time you pick up a brush. Oils paints, watercolor paints, acrylic paints and gouache all have unique properties.

The only rule when it comes to creating with paint is that there are no rules. Along the way you will be taught rules by experts and professionals but you will usually find that there are exceptions to these rules and breaking the rules can often create a new and unexpected result.

If you are just starting out, get a few basic supplies and add to your collection as you go. If you are learning, select reasonably priced paints, brushes and painting surfaces. As you go, you will develop a better idea of what you will require for your style and the direction that you want your art to go. You don’t need to have the best quality brushes and paints if you are starting out.
