What would Wheeler’s garrison at Cawnpore have looked like?
This is partly an area of study, but this question’s evolved into more of an interest. Basically, I’ve researched all about the Siege of Cawnpore, but nothing I’ve read has given me any idea of what the garrison would actually have looked like. I know the basics, like that it was surrounded by trenches with barbed wire and there was a hospital and barracks. But I can’t picture it at all.
I’ve seen one picture, of arches taken later which are no help. Obviously, there’d be no one with a camera or an Easel while the place was being blown to pieces by rebels. But has anyone got a better source, or has been to the actual site? I’ve tried Flashman for the description as well, but I just can’t picture.
ok no barbed wire, a couple of barracks, mud wall and a trench around it.
